People's angst with my "free time"

"So how do you spend your time these days?" has undoubtedly been one of the most frequently thrown questions at me lately, especially during my visit to India.

And I have been wondering if this is in any way related to peoples perception of the apparently crazy change that marriage brings into your life, or whether it is related to moving countries and adopting a seemingly foreign (and therefore implied different) lifestyle or then again whether people cannot seem to imagine you existing without being typically employed 9am - 6pm.

It has now been around four odd months since I moved with SN and yes while the new country, new language, and new people bit, has at times been a bit unnerving, also severely impacting my independent social existence, all in all I spend my time actually doing more in comparison to what I usually did when I was single, or in India.

I work with my company in India, albeit flexible hours and from home, I go for my daily walks, catch up with my parents, sister, friends etc (albeit on skype / gtalk / fb etc), blog regularly, do my usual shopping and mall visiting and in addition to that do the cooking, cleaning, laundry, house maintenance, grocery shopping, gardening and learning of a foreign language, which I didn't do even a bit of earlier. So all in all, I now need to do more than I ever did, have many more responsibilities to take on and more social obligations to fulfill than I had earlier and I find myself in a phase where perhaps planning and time management needs to be at its best.

And while I cannot deny that my present lifestyle shift does promise me a few more awake hours to myself everyday (basically due to not having to spend 2-3 hours commuting to any place), I know that this is likely to be only the beginning to more power packed (read hectic) days to come by.

So for those of you who see an irritated me when you ask me "So how do you spend your time these days?" - please note that as much I wish I am not on a holiday to Hawaii :)
